Another Case Study of Broken Academia: Prof Martin Cowie
In the past, I've provided examples to show how academia is broken - here in New Zealand, in the UK, Australia and elsewhere. In this article, I present an interesting UK case-study of another captured 'expert': Professor Martin Cowie. Senior academic cardiologist, Professor at high-ranking universities and on Boards of numerous well-established NGOs and international research centres...it's a familiar story. Especially how Cowie now works for AstraZeneca. But he also has a somewhat unexpected connection to a PR company and the (fake) 'Freedom Movement'. Read on to learn more.
For those unfamiliar with evidence of the capture, corruption and fraud within international academia, I suggest starting with my overview article and original images, published in Propaganda in Focus: How Universities Control the Narrative. (And I'm working on an updated version of this text for a presentation - stay tuned!)
I've also provided numerous case study examples of fake 'freedom fighters' or what David A Hughes defines as Camp 2 voices like the UK's Professor Angus Dalgleish and his intelligence asset 'colleagues':

And in the NZ context, one of the 'academic 'expert' puppet protagonists for the Government's Royal Commission of Inquiry into Covid, likely Freemason Prof Le Gros:

If you prefer to listen to my take on broken academia (I'm a broken record on this topic!), you could also listen to Robyn of Relentless interviewing me about it:

There's a lot there to investigate. Now, let's turn to my new case study, Professor Martin Cowie.

Cowie, is a Scottish-born consultant cardiologist (likely in similar circles to Dr Malhotra) with a long history of clinical advisory roles for the Royal Brompton Hospital, London. In 2018 he was a TedX speaker warning of the risks from cholesterol to our modern hearts. He actively promotes 'vaccines' and remote monitoring technology for healthcare - and has done for many years. He is Professor of Cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London and has won numerous awards for his 'patient-centred' work. Looking at his career, we can see how academics like Cowie (whether knowingly or not) played a significant role in the machinery that allowed, then encouraged healthcare systems in Europe to be hijacked by BigPharma. As the Chair of the UK's MHRA said herself: Regulators become Enablers. For instance, back in 2011 Cowie Chaired The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) (invitation-only) 'working group' meeting in Budapest, a partner group of the EU which currently on its website openly states it:
...represents the biopharmaceutical industry operating in Europe. Through its direct membership of 36 national associations, 40 leading pharmaceutical companies and a growing number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), EFPIA’s mission is to create a collaborative environment that enables our members to innovate, discover, develop and deliver new therapies and vaccines for people across Europe, as well as contribute to the European economy.
All the usual suspects are partners in EFPIAs Governance and Funding - Pfizer, Novartis, Ely Lilly and of course Astra Zeneca (I'll return to AZ in a moment). In that 2011 meeting, chaired by Cowie, the opening address prophetically stated:
Europe’s population is ageing; chronic diseases are growing, while, at the same time, the workforce is shrinking. How will health systems respond to these challenges and remain sustainable? eHealth and telemedicine offer some solutions to these challenges: for example, through remote monitoring and telehealth hospitals, doctors can reach patients and their homes at a distance, even across national borders. [Archived here]
Later, his name appears in an acknowledgement in the BMJ relating to cardio-data related to 'covid':

It is noted above how Cowie was a 'consultant' for AstraZeneca and other pharma companies. But of course "none of these interests is (sic) directly related to topics advised on for this project." Yeah, nah.
Revolving Doors of Power
Perhaps predictably, in late 2020 Cowie left his role on the Board at the UKs National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) before his four-year term was up. That's because he took up a role as Chief Physician Scientist for Heart Failure at AstraZeneca. In a perfect example of the corrupt revolving doors of power between academia and BigPharma, his new senior role with AstraZeneca seemed perfectly timed? The AZ 'vaccine' contracts had already been signed, with global roll-outs about to begin. The rest, as I explain here, is history. Including AZs covid jab being (eventually) banned.
It is concerning how covid era policies and the harmful (cardio) impact from the experimental AZ injectables provided Prof Cowie's decades-old dream a reality. I'm not suggesting he wishes that harm on the population - but he continues to actively promote digital health, using untested, unethical technology in the delivery of heart failure care, including apps, implantables and wearables (3 mins):
"Regulators are much more permissive" he says in that clip. That's for sure, as The Situation Room evidences.
One year into his new BigPharma job, at the height of the covid era fearmongering propaganda, in October 2021 (incidentally, a week before NZs horrific and insane 'Super Saturday' jab-a-thon), Cowie gave a keynote speech "A practical primer on AI and data management in patient care." at the Wearables and TeleMed event for the European Society of Cardiology. In his later presentations, Cowie draws on Deloitte reports to highlight the improved 'efficiencies' of using AI in clinical trials. Will it never end? On his website (now archived) in Jan 2022, he posted how he...
“...has […] seen many patients with COVID-related heart problems.”
The narrative was carefully controlled by 'experts' like Cowie, they knew the truth.
And, like all BigPharma, AZs plans were always to reduce the cost and time of (inconvenient) clinical trials to get drugs to market in double-quick time:

In the above slide from one of Cowie's presentations shows, he refers to the use of 'event sniffers' (wearable cardio-monitors) where digital geolocation surveillance can then connect to other data (health, shopping, work, home, social media etc), that in turn feeds an AI algorithm for AstraZeneca's recruitment machinery for clinical trials. With that in mind, here is a screenshot of AZs current clinical trials listed for cardio-related drug interventions:

And the profits continue to grow for these types of products. This month AZ was listed on the NY Stock Exchange, as Cowie shared on his Linkedin:
With this momentum continuing into 2026, the Company has confidence in reaching its 2030 ambition to grow annual revenue to $80 Billion and launch 20 new medicines. Looking beyond 2030, AstraZeneca is investing in transformative technologies that have the potential to change the practice of medicine across our portfolio. [source]

Controlling the Narrative
Finally, a search of UK Companies House provides additional insights into Cowie's financial interests. In an unlikely twist, alongside his cardiology career, he's co-director of an elite PR company, Ann Scott Associates (ASA Luxury). Founded by Ann Scott, her company has a long history with many changes in directorships. It is perhaps unsurprising to see some Bulgarian names listed in management (more on that rabbit hole another day). The current ASA directors are Ann Denise Scott and, since 2014, Prof Martin Richard Cowie. Ann Scott appears in many social media posts promoting her customers’ luxury locations, and customers inevitably include celebrities and royalty.
“Ann Scott Associates' ability to control press coverage on our clients' behalf and to convey accurately the appropriate messages is, we believe, one of our particular strengths.” (source) (my emphasis)
Here’s one of their advertorials in The Standard. ASA is undoubtedly promoting other 'high profile' properties and names from all over the world.
ASA is a specialist PR and communications agency for luxury hotels and travel brands, headquartered across London and Milan. Built on over four decades of hospitality expertise, we partner with the world's most discerning properties to build visibility, shape narratives, and generate lasting commercial results.
Just a quick scan of ASAs exclusive client lists provides insights into a different world. For instance, Italian-based ASA-promoted resorts are part of Alpitour, one of Europe's largest travel operators.

Hashtags on ASA socials feature promotional images taken from Italian Ambassadors’ residences, Aman, Dubai and the Taj Mahal, feature Christian Dior wardrobes, diamond jewellery and vintage champagnes. Hardly a typical cardiologist's image - or is it?
Which brings attention to ASAs latest financial accounts which of course, records >GBP1million in assets and investments. But strangely zero formally recorded employees in the past few years? Staff members are listed on its Linkedin profile, however. And among them is - and this adds a further layer of intrigue to Cowie's conflicts of interest - Poppy Delingpole.

Yes, daughter of the journalist podcaster, brother to 'Beergate' Ivo (who, like his father, is a regular contributing author in The Spectator). Curiouser and curiouser...
Investigating how utterly broken academia is, reveals some bizarre surprises. In the case of Prof Dalgleish we have connections with MI6, Hollywood movies and race-horses. With Kiwi Prof Le Gros it was Freemasonry and Nazi-era chemical companies. And here I have briefly outlined connections between a prominent UK-Gov 'advisor' cardiologist, member of healthcare regulator-turned-enabler NICE and now has a senior role at AZ. Perhaps Cowie had some help from that posh PR company he co-directs that "controls press coverage" and "shapes narratives"? Indeed, perhaps that same PR company is controlling other narratives too? Food for thought...
